Our award-winning washed rind Kau Piro cheese has a luscious creamy interior with a savoury earthy flavour which becomes more complex and robust with age. Kau Piro translates to ‘stinky cow’ in Te Reo Māori, due to its pungent (piro) smell, which is typical of a soft washed rind. However the smell is often stronger than the taste, one for the lover of stinky cheese and the adventurous!
As with all our cheeses, handmade with aroha and care, on the day of milking, from certified organic cow's milk.

Serving inspiration: On crackers with a slice of apple and drizzle with honey for a starter. Can stand proudly on a cheeseboard as a strong finisher. Pairs nicely with crusty bread, and hazelnuts, grapes and pears.
Perfect match: A sweet wine or a dry red, sweet cider or dark malty caramel beer.
